Is it Time for a Wheel Alignment?
When a vehicle leaves the factory it will drive straight as an arrow on a flat road if nothing interferes with its path, even with no hands on the steering wheel, not that you should ever test that! Over the course of normal road driving your car's wheel alignment could be thrown off. This means that at least one tire will not be pointing in the same direction as the others. This results in control issues that could be dangerous for your vehicle. It is a smart idea to have alignment checks done every 10,000 to 12,000 miles, to make sure all is well. However, if your vehicle's alignment is off it is likely that you will encounter one or more of the following symptoms of wheel alignment trouble.
Drifting & Pulling
Does your car tend to drift to one side or the other? Do you sometimes have to fight the steering wheel to keep the vehicle moving in a straight direction? This is a definite sign of an alignment problem. The longer you wait to have this addressed the worse it will get, making your commute more dangerous everyday.
Shaking Steering Wheel
One of the more common signs of alignment issues is a shaking steering wheel. You may feel a slight vibration if the issue is small, or the steering wheel could rock back and forth fairly violently if the issue is more severe. A simple trip to your local qualified mechanic will make driving a much more pleasurable experience.
Uneven Tire Wear
Should you experience any of the above issues you ought to take a look at your car's tires. If you can noticeably see different wear patterns on one tire than from that across from it, you no doubt have an alignment issue. Visit an auto shop that offers wheel alignments as soon as possible!
